The DeKalb Middle School Saints basketball team finished out their season, falling in the second round of the district tournament. The team faced off against longtime rival Upperman, and would fall in a very tight game.
The Saints scored six points in the first period, with Reed Midgett sinking a two-point basket and a pair of free throws, while Keegan Taylor had one two-point shot. Upperman came away with eight points.
Midgett caught fire in the second period, hitting four two-point baskets, while Auston Parker got on the board with one. Upperman was held to nine, but claimed the 17-16 lead at halftime.
DeKalb added eight points to the scoreboard in the third period, with Taylor hitting a three-pointer, while Midgett added a two-pointer and a free throw. Skylar Herriott added a two-pointer of his own. Upperman matched the Saints point for point and still held a narrow 25-24 lead.
Taylor and Hayden Quarles each sank a three-point shot for the Saints in the fourth, while Midgett added a two-pointer. Upperman would score 10 and take the 35-32 win.
Later, Reed Midgett and Hayden Quarles would each be named to the 2024-25 Upper Cumberland Conference All-District Team.
