The DeKalb Middle School Saints and Lady Saints were at home and on the road last week. The Lady Saints struggled while the Saints put some wins on their list.
On Monday, December 2, the teams were in front of the hometown crowd as they hosted Algood. The girls had a hard game while the Saints came out on top.
The Lady Saints scored only one point in the first period, with a free throw by Taylynn Taylor. Algood put 13 on the board.
Zoie Ashburn hit a three-point shot for the Lady Saints in the second period, while Hanna Tobitt added a couple of free throws. Algood scored six, taking the 19-6 halftime lead.
Ashburn and Paizlee Taylor each had a free throw point in the third period, while Algood piled on another 10 points. They held a 29-8 lead.
The Lady Saints scored four more points in the fourths, with Hailey Moore hitting a pair of twos. Algood sealed the game up with six points, taking the 35-12 win.
In the Saints game, Auston Parker sank a pair of three-pointers in the first period, while Gavin Frazier added a two-point shot. Algood had five points.
Hayden Quarles got in on the action for the Saints in the second period, scoring a pair of threes, while Frazier added a pair of twos. Algood was held to nine points, giving DeKalb the 18-14 halftime lead.
Parker sank a three-pointer in the third, while Reed Midgett had a two-point basket, and Skylar Herriott sank a couple of free throws. Algood matched the seven points, but DeKalb was still up, 25-21.
The Saints put 15 on the board in the fourth period. Midgett had a couple of two-point shots, Parker had a two-pointer and three free throws, Herriott had a two and one free throw, Frazier had a two-pointer, and Quarles had a free throw. Algood was held to 11, giving the Saints the 40-32 victory.
The following Thursday, the teams were on the road, this time taking on White County, with much the same results.
In the Lady Saints’ game, the girls scored two points in the first period, with a two-point shot by Taylynn Taylor. White jumped out with eight points.
Tobitt and Aubree Fuson each had a two-point basket for DeKalb in the second period, while White came away with another eight. White was ahead, 16-6 at the half.
Emmaline Hendrix, Taylynn Taylor, and Fuson each had a two-point shot in the third period, while White continued to inch ahead with another eight points. White was up 24-12.
Ashburn scored the only points for the Lady Saints in the fourth, a two-point basket. White ended the game with 18 points, taking the 42-14 win.
The Saints would take the lead early and slowly pull away. DMS scored eight points in the first period, with Keegan Taylor hitting a three, while Parker and Frazier each had a two-pointer. Midgett added a free throw. White was held to five points.
DMS kept rolling in the second period, with Quarles sinking a three-pointer, while Parker, Taylor, Frazier, and Midgett each had a two-pointer. White was held to another five, giving the Saints the 19-10 halftime lead.
Taylor sank another three-point shot for the Saints in the third, while Midgett had a two-point basket and a free throw. Frazier also had a two-pointer. White County jumped out with 14 points, cutting the Saints’ lead, 27-24.
It would come down to the fourth period, where the Saints would add 14 points to the board. Midgett hit three two-point shots and a couple of free throws, while Parker had one two-pointer and a couple of free throws. Quarles added a two-point basket. White was held to four points, giving the Saints the 41-28 victory.
