The DeKalb Senior League took to the field last week, getting in some games before the holiday weekend.
On June 1, DeKalb Green took on DeKalb Blue in the first of a doubleheader for the blue team.
For Green, Isaac Hall got the team on the board first, getting a run in the first inning. Andrew Cornelius, Derek Young, Lane Poss, and Hunter Jennings touched home in the second inning, while Derek Fish, Cornelius, Young, and Jennings each scored in the third.
Christian Pruitt scored in the first inning for Blue, while Austin Johnson, Austin Brown, Luke Oliver, and Hunter Jennings each came in with runs in the third.
Green came away with the win, 9-5.
Next, Blue faced off with DeKalb Orange in a close match.
For Orange, Colter Norris, Josh Hembree, and Seth Whaley each had a run in the first inning, while John Maynard, Whaley, and Noah Gill crossed home in the second. Caleb Stanley topped off the score with a run of his own in the third inning.
Christian Pruitt and Austin Brown each had a run in the first inning for Blue, and it looked as if that might be the team’s only scores. But Blue came to life in the fourth and made things interesting. Austin Johnson, Travis Cheichi, Tanner Poss, and Lane Poss each had runs.
Blue would come close, but Orange hung on for the 7-6 win.
On June 3, it was DeKalb Green’s turn for a doubleheader evening, and the team first faced off with DeKalb Blue.
Austin Johnson, Christian Pruitt, Austin Brown, and Seth Whaley each had runs in the first inning for Blue, then each would score again in the second. Johnson and Grayson Redmon added runs in the third inning.
For Green, Tanner Poss and Andrew Cornelius each had a run in the first inning, while Hunter Jennings, Lane Poss, and Derek Young each scored in the second. Derek Fish scored in the third, but it was not enough.
Blue took the victory, 10-6.
Next, Green battled Orange in a low-scoring, close game.
For Orange, all the runs came in the second inning, with Seth Whaley, Grayson Redmon, and Luke Oliver each touching home plate.
Green didn’t get on the board until the fifth inning, with Lane Poss getting a run. Derek Fish scored in the sixth to make it close, but Orange took the win, 3-2.
