Red Boiling Springs hasn’t won a game all year and they sure didn’t start with Smithville this past week as the Tiger baseball team handed Bulldogs their worst loss yet, crushing them 26-5 in front of their home fans.
Sinking the hapless RBS squad its 17th consecutive loss on the season was part of a four-game winning streak the Tigers have embarked on, defeating Smith County 11-5, a shutout win over Jackson County, 18-0 and then Saturday knocking off Cumberland County, 7-3.
In the Jackson County game, pitcher Aiden Curtis toed the rubber and gave up just two hits, working the entire game. He struck out seven along the way and surrendered just two bases to walks. Meanwhile Isaac Knowles tore it up at the plate, going a perfect four-for-four with four RBIs. Logan Cornelius also got involved, batting in three runs as he went two-for-three with the stick.
The closest game of the Tiger tear came in their rare Saturday outing as three runs in the sixth put away what was a nail-biter up until that point. DeKalb actually started out with a three run lead in the first but Cumberland was able to chip away with runs in the second and third. A single run in the fourth gave DeKalb a little breathing room but the jets countered in the fifth. They had no answer for the sixth inning Tiger barrage.
The Tigers led in hitting, 7-6 while Cumberland made two fielding errors to one Tiger miscue. Luke Oliver and Avery South were the two leading batters for the Tigers, both going two-for-two for the home team and each accounting for an RBI. Logan Cornelius worked most of the way on the hill, pitching six innings, fanning four and walking three. Patrick Cantrell struck out two and gave up two hits in relief.
