The DeKalb County Tigerettes got one game in between the rain storms last week, claiming a victory on the road over border rival White County. The game wouldn’t get moving until later innings.

Things wouldn’t get moving until the top of the third inning. After Rylee Wilbur flew out to centerfield, Bryna Pelham stepped to the plate and singled on a line drive to left. Tatum Young would get another out for the Warriorettes, but then Zayleigh Bain singled on a line drive to center. Kora Kilgore was up next, and singled on a line drive to center as Pelham came home. The Tigerettes put the first run on the board, 1-0.

Things would be even better at the top of the fourth. Maggie Hendrixson singled on a line drive to center, then Sophie Adcock single on a bunt to first base. Later, Wilbur loaded the bases with a walk, then Pelham doubled on a line drive to center as Adcock, Hendrixson, and Wilbur each touched the plate.

Young next singled on a pop fly to the catcher as Pelham took third, then Bain grounded into fielder’s choice at second as Pelham scored. It was Kilgore’s turn at bat again, and she would single on a line drive to center as Bain scored. DeKalb was on top, 6-0.

The Tigerettes would top off their score at the top of the fifth after Fuson doubled on a line drive to center. Later, Pelham singled on a line drive to center as Fuson came home. DeKalb was up, 7-0.

The Warriorettes would manage to avoid the shutout at the bottom of the sixth, scoring on a pop fly and error by the catcher. The game would go through seven innings, but DeKalb would take the 7-1 victory.

Kilgore struck out 16 batters from the circle, giving up three hits and one run over seven innings, walking one.

On Friday, the Tigerettes were back on their home field, this time taking on Stone Memorial. The game would be a close one, being decided late.

Action didn’t get moving until the bottom of the third, when the Tigerettes finally put points on the board. Pelham started things off with a single ground ball to left, followed by Young reaching on a bunt to the pitcher.

Bain loaded the bases with a single grounder to short, then Kilgore grounded out to the pitcher, but allowed Pelham to come home. Later, Maggie Hendrixson singled on a line drive to center as Young and Bain scored. DeKalb was up, 3-0.

The Lady Panthers would stay close, scoring one run at their next at bat at the top of the fourth, then take a 5-3 lead at the top of the fifth.

DeKalb would retake the lead at the bottom of the sixth after Brooke Fuson took an HBP. She would be caught at second after a Wilbur grounder to short, but then Pelham singled on a ground ball to the pitcher. Wilbur took second on an error. Young then grounded to fielder’s choice to short, while Wilbur scored. Pelham was caught at second.

Bain was up to the plate next, and singled on a grounder to short, then Kilgore doubled on a fly to center as Bain and Young scored. The Tigerettes were up, 6-5.

The game would go to the seventh inning, but the Tigerettes hung on for the narrow 6-5 win. Kilgore earned the win from the circle, allowing seven hits and five runs over seven innings, striking out 10 and walking two.
