The DCHS Tigerettes softball team was in action last week, dominating the competition at home and on the road.
On Thursday, March 14, the girls were on their home field as they hosted visiting Cumberland County. The Tigerettes would not be kind to the Lady Jets.
The Lady Jets would be retired quickly in the first inning by pitcher Kora Kilgore, then DeKalb put up 15 runs at their first at bat. The Tigerettes would add two more to the board in the second period, then hold Cumberland to just one run in the third, ending the game with the mercy rule.
Zayleigh Bain, Rylee Wilbur, Bryna Pelham, Gracie Randolph, Kora Kilgore, and Elaina Turner, each had two runs in the games, while Sydney Polk, Bri Murphy, Lillie Young, Raylie Cowan, and Brooklyn Fuson each had one. Kilgore went one inning from the circle, striking out three, while Young finished the game with three hits and one run, striking out two and walking two.
On Saturday, the Tigerettes went three for three at a tournament in Gordonsville, claiming wins over Macon, Monterey, and Warren Counties.
In the Macon game, the Tigerettes jumped out 2-0 in the first inning, then 5-1 in the third. They would go on to score one more in the fourth and claim the 6-1 victory.
Wilbur, and Pelham each had two runs, while Randolph and Murphy each had one. Kilgore took the win from the circle, going four innings with nine strikeouts and six walks.
In the Monterey game, the Lady Wildcats jumped out with a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but the Tigerettes would chip away at the scoreboard throughout the rest of the game. DeKalb scored one in the second, two in the third, and two more in the fourth for the 5-3 win.
Wilbur claimed two runs, while Bain, Pelham, and Murphy each had one. Murphy was the winning pitcher, going all four innings, allowing three hits and three runs, striking out five and walking two.
The Tigerettes also faced the Warren County Lady Pioneers and again came away with a victory. DeKalb went up 3-0 in the first inning, 7-2 in the third, 9-3 in the fourth and held on for the 9-5 win at the top of the fifth. The Tigerettes had 11 hits with one error in the game.

Wilbur had three hits, Bain, Pelham, and Randolph each had two, and Murphy and Kilgore each had one. Kilgore went all five innings in the circle, allowing four hits and five runs, striking out 11 and walking four.
