The DCHS Tigerette softball team has earned a spot in the TSSAA Class AA Softball Tournament for the third consecutive year after drumming Red Bank 12-0 in a five-inning sub-state game Saturday in Smithville.
DeKalb will travel to the state tournament for the eighth time in the team’s 30-year history.
Kayley Caplinger pitched a one-hit shutout against Red Bank, while the Tigerettes scored 12 runs on 12 hits and neither team committed any errors. DeKalb took control of the game early, scoring eight runs in the first inning, then added four more in the fourth.
Tyra Graham belted a homerun and a double for the Tigerettes, and Hannah Walker smacked a double and two singles. Lexi Bates, Myranda Bailiff, and Kayley Caplinger hit two singles each, and Dani Meadows added a single.
The game ended in the fifth inning due to the “Mercy Rule.”
