Tigerettes slay dragons

York Institute never knew what hit them this past week as the Tigerettes put up 32 runs on the visitors in one day while not allowing one Lady Dragon to cross the plate.

In a pair of 16-0 games, the Tigerette softball squad boosted their record to 9-7, blasting the winless York team in the double header. They went into Central Magnet in Murfreesboro Monday night for a double header having a 4-1 district record, winning both, 1-0 and 6-1, to improve to 11-7. Their next district game is at home against Macon County this Thursday at 5 p.m.

The first of the games saw the Tigrettes get out of the gate fast, plating 14 runs in the first inning. They didn’t even have to bat in the third as they run-ruled the Lady Dragons, leading by more than 10 runs after three innings. Spearheading their slaying of the Dragons were the bats of Maddison Parsley, Allison Maynard and Kristena Bain, all of who hit triple baggers. Meanwhile Joni Robinson, Kenzie France, Emme Colwell, Kelly Roberts, Braya Murphy and Maynard all contributed doubles. Madison Whitehead got the victory from the circle. DeKalb was helped in the win by five Lady Dragon miscues in the field.

The Tigerettes did have to bat in the third inning in the second game of the double header but that too was called after three, a 13-run second inning enough to put the game out of reach. The barrage was led by Maynard who was valedictorian of the game, pounding a homerun.

Adding to the collection of 16 DeKalb hits were tirples by Roberts, Murphy and Parsley and doubles by Robinson and France. The Tigerettes gave up just two hits to the Lady Dragons. Hailey Redmon picked up the win.

The taming of the Lady Dragons came after the Upperman Bees put the sting on the Tigerettes, beating them 16-4. Four runs in the first and four in the second was enough to put DeKalb in a hole they couldn’t dig out of as they were outhit 17-7 by the Bees.
