The DCHS Tigerettes softball team continued their winning ways last week, taking on Stone Memorial in Crossville before coming home later to host White County.
On Tuesday, March 19, the girls traveled to the far away land of Cumberland County where they faced off against the Lady Panthers. It was another good outing for DeKalb.
DeKalb started things off, with Bryna Pelham hitting a fly to left, then drove home by a double fly to right by Gracie Randolph. The Lady Panthers would go three and out, giving the Tigerettes the 1-0 lead.
Stone would tie the game at one in the second inning, and things wouldn’t pick back up for DeKalb until the third when Pelham reached on a grounder to left, followed by a another hit by Randolph, driving Pelham home.
The Tigerettes would repeat at the top of the fifth, with Pelham reaching on a ground ball to right, followed by a fly to left by Randolph. DCHS was up 3-1.
The game would go to the seventh inning, where Rylee Wilbur would double on a fly to center, then Zayleigh Bain reached on a grounder to second. Pelham would load the bases with a HBP, Bri Murphy would hit a ground ball to left. Wilbur, Bain, Pelham, and Murphy would all make their way home.
Stone would go three and out, giving DeKalb the 7-1 victory.
The following Thursday, the Tigerettes were on their home field, this time taking on the Warriorettes of White County. The Tigerettes would get another shutout win in this game.
White County would be held off the board at their first at bats, while the Tigerettes wasted no time. Wilbur reached on single to first, then stole second as Bain was at bat. Pelham would get a walk, then Randolph singled on a fly to right, sending Wilbur home. Murphy would send Pelham home on a grounder to left, and the Tigerettes were up 2-0.
The Warriorettes would go three up and three down in the second, and DeKalb would once again make them pay. Elaina Turner singled on a fly to right, then Hannah Brown took a base after a HBP. Wilbur would also get a HBP, then Bain hit a triple on a fly to left. Pelham got a walk, then Randoph reached on a grounder and an error by third. Kora Kilgore would single on a fly to center, and before White County could get off the field, DeKalb was up, 7-0.
DeKalb would tack on four more runs in the fourth inning, with doubles by Pelham and Randolph, and singles by Murphy and Kilgore. White would never see a runner cross home, giving the Tigerettes the 11-0 shutout.
