The DeKalb County Tigerettes softball team has been tearing up the diamond, getting a regular season win, before traveling to Chattanooga to battle in the Wildcat Classic.
On Wednesday, March 19, the girls were on their home field as they hosted Macon County. DeKalb would dominate the game. The arm of Kora Kilgore would put Macon three up and three down to start the game, then the Tigerette bats would go to work.
Bryna Pelham singled on a line drive to left, then Tatum Young sacrificed to third as Pelham took second. Zayleigh Bain next doubled on a line drive to left, sending Pelham home, followed by a homer on a fly to left by Kilgore. The Tigerettes were not done yet.
Maggie Hendrixson singled on a line drive to center, then Rylee Wilbur reached on a bunt and error by the pitcher. Sophie Adcock singled on a but to the pitcher, then Liliana Judkins singled on a line drive to right as Hendrixson and Wilbur scored. Hannah Brown doubled on a line drive to center as Adcock touched the plate, then Pelham was back up in the lineup. The slugger doubled on a flu to left as Judkins and Brown came home. DeKalb was up 8-0.
Once again, Macon went three up and three down, and the Tigerettes resumed putting points on the board. Hendrixson doubled on a line drive to center, then Wilbur tripled on a line drive to center as Hendrixson crossed the plate. Adcock sacrificed on a fly to left, but Wilbur would come home. DeKalb was on top 10-0.
Kilgore would once again see three batters go down swinging, then the Tigerettes iced the cake. Young reached on a bunt to the catcher, then Bain doubled on a line drive to center as Young scored. Later, Wilbur singled on a grounder to center as Bain scored. The Tigerettes would take the 12-0 victory.
Kilgore allowed zero hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out nine and walking none. Kilgore not only recorded a no-hitter, she also counted her 500th strikeout during the game.
The following Friday, the Tigerettes were in Chattanooga where they would dominate through most of the Wildcat Classic.
Their first game saw the Tigerettes face off against Rhea County. DeKalb would take the lead at the top of the first and never let go.
After a walk for Pelham in the first inning, and later a walk for Zayleigh Bain, Kilgore grounded out to second as Pelham scored. A Hendrixson single to center would next send Bain home.
Rhea County would score their one lone run at the bottom of the second, but the Tigerettes would score three at the top of the fourth with runs by Pelham, Bain, and Young.
DeKalb would score six more runs at the top of the fifth and hold on for the 11-1 victory. Kilgore struck out 10, giving up one hit and one run over five innings, walking one.
Later that day, the Tigerettes would take on the Rockvale, and once again dominate.
DeKalb put three on the board at the bottom of the second inning, after a double grounder to left by Kilgore. Hendrixson got a walk, then Wilbur singled on a line drive to center sending Jerusalem Aldino, running for Kilgore, home. Later, a single line drive to center by Brown sent Hendrixson and Wilbur across the plate.
The Rockets got on the scoreboard at the top of the fourth with two runs, but the Tigerettes would go up big at their next at bats. Brown reached on a fly and an error at center, followed by a single line drive to left by the big hitter Pelham. Young singled on a bunt to the pitcher, then Bain singled on a ground ball to center as Brown and Pelham touched home. Kilgore was up next and singled on a grounder to left as Young scored and Bain touched the plate on an error.
Later, Wilbur singled on a grounder to third, as Aldino, in for Kilgore, came home. Adcock doubled on a fly to left sending Wibur across the plate, then Liliana Judkins got a walk. Brown was back up to bat, and singled on a grounder to center, as Adcock scored. The Tigerettes commanded a 10-2 lead.
The Rockets would cut the lead, scoring three runs in the top of the fifth, but the Tigerettes held on to take the 10-5 win. Kilgore allowed seven hits and five runs over five innings, striking out seven and walking two.
The following day, the Tigerettes were back in action, this time facing off with the South Pittsburg Lady Pirates. The Lady Pirates would go up 2-1 at the bottom of the second, but that would be the last points they would see.
Pelham and Bain would each score at the top of the third, putting the Tigerettes on top 3-2, then Brown would score off of a Pelham double at the top of the fourth. A Bain double would send Pelham home, then Bain would touch the plate after a Kilgore single to center.
The Tigerettes would continue adding runs at the top of the fifth after a Brown double fly to left sent Wilbur home, then a Pelham sacrifice fly to left sent Brown across the plate.
DeKalb iced the game at the top of the sixth, with runs by Bain, and Aldino scoring on a wild pitch. The Tigerettes held on for the 10-2 victory.
Kilgore gave up two hits and two runs over six innings, striking out 13 and walking none.
Their next game was against the Lebanon Blue Devils. The Tigerettes got on the board at the bottom of the first with three runs by Young, Hendrixson and Brown. Kaydence Johnson would come home for DeKalb at the bottom of the second, and Chaylea Lunsford touched the plate in the fifth following a double fly to center by Brown. DeKalb would claim the 5-0 win.
Kilgore earned the win from the circle, surrendering two hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out six and walking four.
That same day, the Tigerettes took on the Lady Admirals of Farragut and would suffer their first defeat of the weekend.
DeKalb got on the board first, with a run by Wilbur after a Hendrixson single to right. Then, Brown homered on a fly to center, also sending Lunsford and Hendrixson home.
Farragut scored on their first at bat, with a homer fly to center.
Not to be out done, Brooke Fuson homered on a fly to center as DeKalb came to bat in the second. Unfortunately, that would be the last run the Tigerettes would see.
The Lady Admirals scored three at the top of the third, one in the fourth, and two in the fifth. They would claim the 7-5 win. Lilliana Judkins took the loss for DeKalb, going three innings, allowing six runs on eight hits, striking out one and walking one.
On Monday, March 24, the girls traveled to Green Hill to take on the Lady Hawks. The Tigerettes would take the early lead, scoring two at the top of the first, but Green Hill would match them at their first at bat.
DeKalb went up by three in the second, then another four at the top of the third. The Lady Hawks would also score four in the fourth, then go on to dominate the rest of the game, scoring five in the fifth, and five in the sixth.
The Tigerettes managed one more run in the seventh, but Green Hill took the 19-11 win.
DeKalb would have a better day the following Tuesday as they hosted the Upperman Lady Bees. DeKalb took the lead early at the bottom of the first and never looked back. They would claim the 8-0 shutout.
The Tigerettes had 14 hits in the game, with Bain and Young each collecting four. Kilgore had four runs batted in, while Pelham had three hits in three at bats. Pelham and Wilbur were also proficient as base runners, stealing multiple bases.
Kilgore struck out 11 batters, surrendering two hits and zero runs over six innings.
On Thursday, the Tigerettes recorded yet another victory after beating Livingston Academy 2-1. DeKalb got on the board first, with Pelham scoring at the bottom of the third, after a Kilgore single line drive to center.
Livingston would match them at the top of the fourth, but Wilbur would score the winning run for DeKalb at the bottom of the seventh, after Bain singled on a bunt to the pitcher.
Kilgor got the win from the circle, surrendering six hits and one run over seven innings, striking out 18 and walking two. The Tigerettes are 10-5 on the season.
