Tigerettes walk off with victory
Emme Colwell
Emme Colwell earned the victory in the Tigerette win over Macon County this past week on a Allison Maynard walk-off homer.

Allison Maynard blasted the Tigerettes to a 7-1 district mark, pounding a walk-off home run to lift DeKalb 4-2 over rival Macon County in dramatic fashion this past week.

Her shot over the centerfield wall nearly hit the flagpole over the Tigerette banner, scoring her two teammates who were on first and second as she walked to the plate to the chants of “Aly, Aly” from the home crowd. She came to bat with her team trailing Macon 2-1 in the bottom of the eighth. Macon had taken the lead in the top part of the inning and was looking to hold off the Tigerettes for the extra-inning victory. However, after fouling off a couple of pitches for dramatic effect, Maynard went yard. The teams had gone into the inning knotted at one apiece with DeKalb’s only other score coming in the fifth.

Emme Colwell earned the win in the contest that saw DeKalb out hit Macon nine to eight, although the Tigerettes did make two field errors. Joni Robinson and Kristena Bain both had two hits while Maddison Parsley, Megan Walker and Maynard all had hits. Colwell helped her cause with a double.

The dramatic win was followed by a 20-2 pounding of district foe Smith County as the Tigerettes won 20-2 on the road. A six-run first inning and a nine-run second inning was all she wrote for the hosts who were only able to muster two runs in the second inning. Madison Whitehead got the win and the hit list was too voluminous to print for the Tigerettes who proved to 14-8 overall and 7-1 in the district. They played Livingston Tuesday and then are scheduled to host Cannon Thursday and go to Warren Monday before returning home to take on Smith County on Tuesday of next week.
