Tigers 2-1 at Watertown Tournament

The DeKalb County High School Tigers participated in the Aflac Classic in Watertown last week, getting a couple of wins before falling in a game on the final day of the tournament.

On Friday, December 27, the Tigers were in Watertown as they took on Central Magnet. DeKalb would go up big in the first period and never look back.

The Tigers scored 19 in the first period, with Jon Hendrix sinking three three-point baskets, Logan Duke with three two-pointers, and Dallas Kirby hitting a two-point shot and a pair of free throws. Central Magnet was held scoreless.

DeKalb kept rolling in the second period with 20 more points. Elliott Barnes got on the board with three three-point shots, and a two-pointer, while Jordan Parker added a pair of two-point baskets. Hendrix and Porter Hancock each had a two-pointer, while Seth Fuson had a free throw. Central Magnet got on the board with 14, giving the Tigers the 39-14 halftime lead.

Fuson sank a couple of two-point shots for the Tigers in the third, while Duke and Hancock each had one. Central Magnet cut the lead slightly with 13 points.

The Tigers ended the game with 17 additional points. Parker and David Wheeler each hit a three-pointer, Fuson added a couple of twos, Duke had a two-pointer and a free throw, and Hartley Hannah and Drew Cook each had a two-point shot. Central Magnet ended with 14, giving DeKalb the 66-41 win.

The following day, the Tigers were back on the court, this time facing off against Watertown. It would be another good game for DeKalb.

Fuson sank a two and three-pointer for the Tigers in the first period, while Kirby added a couple of two-pointers and a free throw. Watertown stayed close with seven points.

The Tigers put another 10 points on the board in the second, with Kirby hitting a three-pointer, while Parker had a two-pointer and a pair of free throws. Barnes had a two-point basket and a free throw. Watertown was held to three, giving DeKalb the 20-10 lead at the half.

Fuson hit a two and three-pointer for DeKalb in the third, while Kirby had a couple of two-point shots. Parker, Hendrix, and Duke each had a two-point basket. Watertown scored 10, giving the Tigers the 35-20 lead.

The Tigers ended the game with 12 more points. Kirby had a two-pointer and three free-throw points, while Parker, Hendrix, and Hancock each had a pair of free throws. Fuson had one free-throw point. Watertown also scored 12, far from what they needed. DeKalb claimed the 47-32 victory.

On Monday, December 30, the Tigers were in action once again, this time taking on a tough Station Camp team. The game would remain close until the final period.

The Tigers scored 10 points in the first period. Hendrix hit a three-pointer and a free throw, while Parker had a two-pointer and a pair of free throws. Fuson also had a two-pointer. Station Camp put 13 on the board.

DeKalb scored eight in the second period, with a pair of twos by Kirby and one each by Fuson and Hendrix. Station Camp also scored eight, taking the 21-18 lead at halftime.

The Tigers narrowed the lead in the third period, scoring 11 points. Kirby sank a three-point basket and a couple of two-pointers, while Parker had a couple of two-point shots. Station Camp was held to 10, but still held a narrow 31-29 lead.

Hendrix hit a three-pointer for the Tigers in the fourth, while Parker and Hancock each had a two-pointer. It was not enough. Station Camp put 14 on the board, taking the 45-36 win.
