The DeKalb County High School Tigers baseball team dropped their two games against Macon County last week, losing 6-2 at home then 5-3 on the road.

On Monday, March 27, the Tigers hosted the Macon Tigers in a game that wouldn’t be decided until the late innings.

DeKalb would strike first, at the bottom of the first inning, after a Ty Webb double on a fly ball to center. Andrew Dakas would run for Webb, and steal third as Dallas Kirby was at bat. Kirby would then single on a fly ball to right as Dakas crossed home plate. DeKalb was up 1-0 at the end of one.

The game wouldn’t get going again until the bottom of the fifth when the DeKalb Tigers would add to their lead. Webb hit a fly ball and reached on an error by left field. Again, Dakas was the courtesy runner for Webb and advanced to second, then third on defensive indifference. Carter Cook would then single on line drive to left, as Dakas again scored. DeKalb was up 2-0.

Unfortunately, that would be the last points DeKalb would see. As Macon County came to bat at the top of the sixth, suddenly Macon’s bats came to life. With two outs and two on base, back to back triples tied then gave Macon the 3-2 lead. Two more runs by the time DeKalb got off the field put DCHS down 5-2.

At the bottom of the sixth, Brayden Carter lined out to right, then Wesley Kent went down swinging. Westin Wright would reach on a single to right field, but would later get picked off at first, ending the inning.

Macon added one more run at the top of the seventh, then DeKalb had one last chance at bat. Ean Jones was out on a foul tip, Carson Donnell was out at first on a dropped third strike, and then Konner Young flew out to center. Macon claimed the 6-2 win.

Carter Cook took the loss for DeKalb, going five and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs on nine hits and striking out eight. Webb and Wright each had two hits for DeKalb.

It would be much the same the following day as DeKalb traveled to Macon County. There, the team would suffer a 5-3 loss, putting DeKalb at 7-2 on the season so far.
