The DeKalb County High School Tigers soccer team made a big shutout last week, claiming a victory over a tough Stone Memorial Panthers team. Yair Mata was on fire during the match, scoring five of the team’s nine goals.

On Tuesday, April 4, Yair got the Tigers on the board early in the game with a goal with 31:29 on the clock in the first half. He scored again with an assist by Axel Aranda at the 29:18 mark.

It was Yair again 9:27 minutes in the first, then Cameron Miller found the net at the 8:32 mark with an assist by Yair. Miguel Mata scored a goal with 8:32 left in the first to put the Tigers up 5-0 in the first half.

Axel Aranda found the net for the Tigers at the 36:53 mark in the second half, then Yair Mata struck again with an assist by Aranda with 21:08 left to play. Aranda then put a point on the scoreboard for DeKalb with 13:33 left in the match, then Yair scored his final goal of the evening with an assist by Miguel with 8:05 left to play. The Mercy Rule came into play and the game was called.

The Tigers would claim the 9-0 shutout, with Goalie Conner Vance having eight saves in the game.

The Tigers’ Junior Varsity team also claimed a shutout last week against the Panthers, 6-0.

Erick Hernandez put the first point on the board with a goal 28:47 minutes in, then Jose Guzman found the net at the 17:52 mark with an assist by Bryan Ramirez. Hector Cervantes scored a goal with an assist by Bryan Ramirez with 16:29 left to play, in the first half.

Guzman scored his second goal in the second half with 25:36 left to play, then Erick Hernandez found the net with 20:25 left in the match. Hernandez would top off the score with 1:50 left to play, giving the Tigers the 6-0 win. Goalie Conner Hopkins had 11 saves in the game.

DeKalb’s scheduled match against Cannon County was cancelled due to weather.
