The DeKalb County High School Tigers soccer team finished their regular season last week, claiming a win over Macon County on Tuesday and a loss to Warren County last Thursday. The Tigers finished in second place in District 6 AA play, and will play in the District Semifinals on Tuesday, May 9, at 7:00 vs the winner of Stone Memorial and Upperman (weather permitting).

In the Macon County match, the Tigers scored three goals in the first half, and two more in the second.

Yair Mata got the Tigers on the board first with 17:29 left in the first half with an assist by Miguel Mata. Miguel got his own goal at the 8:39 mark and again with 1:44 left in the half.

Miguel found the net again in the second half with 35:43 on the clock with an assist from Cameron Miller, then once more at 27:13, again with help from Miller.

The Tigers would come away with a 5-1 victory, with Goalie Conner Vance having six saves in the game.

On Thursday, the Tigers would fall in a narrow match, 5-4, against Warren County for end of the regular season.

The Tigers had several players named to the All-District Team, including District 6 AA MVP Yair Mata and Offensive MVP Miguel Mata. Cooper Brown, Axel Aranda, Cameron Miller, Ryder Miller, Yair Mata, and Miguel Mata were named to the 1st Team All-District, while Adan Ramirez and Connor Vance were named 2nd Team All-District.

Yair Mata had been ranked number one in the state in soccer, but due to having to sit out because of an injury, he dropped to second in the state at the end of the season.
