The DeKalb County High School Tiger soccer team is getting in shape for their new season, and plans to play some scrimmage games this weekend.
“We have not had any scrimmage games, but have a play day next weekend, Saturday beginning at 8:00 a.m.” explained Head Coach Dylan Kleparek. “I think we’re going to be pretty good. We have some spots to fill, but we’ve got some good young talent, and some guys that have some experience too.”
Coach K, as his players call him, said that what his team lacks in age is made up for in experience. “We have just one senior, but we started seven sophomores last year on varsity, so those guys are coming back as juniors.”
As far as the competition, Coach K said that the district will have some good teams. “Our district should be pretty solid. Cumberland County, who was the top of the district, lost a lot of players, but they always have a pretty strong team. Livingston and Stone Memorial were kind of young, but they’ll bring back some good teams. White County and Upperman are always improving and can challenge us if we don’t play well. We added White County to our district this year, which were probably near the bottom rank last year, but in high school soccer anything goes.”
The Tigers will begin their season at home on Tuesday, March 15, at 6:00 p.m. as they host White County.
