The DeKalb County High School Tigers Soccer team was on the field last Saturday, hosting a Play Day for teams around the region and getting some real-time play before the start of the regular season.

We have six teams out here today,” said Tigers Head Coach Dylan Kleparek. “We have DeKalb, Macon, Smith, Community, Watertown, and Cannon County teams. Our season starts next Tuesday (March 14), and we’re trying to find out where we are at. We’ll be playing 30-minute games, three varsity and one JV game.”

“You have to play hard to beat anyone in our district,” Kleparek continued. “I think it’s going to be a tough challenge, but we are ready.”

The Tigers came out strong in their first game.  They started the day with a 5-0 victory over Macon County after Yair Mata scored three goals, and Miguel Mata and Axel Aranda each scored one.

In their next match, the Tigers faced Community High School.  It was more of the same, as the Tigers won 5-0 as well. Yair Mata scored on four goals, while Cameron Miller scored one.

In their third match, the Tigers faced Smith County in a 1-1 draw. Cameron Miller scored the Tigers’ one goal.

Finally, the DeKalb JV faced Watertown in a 0-0 draw.

“Overall, it was a very good day,” said Coach K. “Our teams played very hard and got some valuable experience heading into next week’s opener on Tuesday at Upperman.  The Tigers’ defense did an impressive job only conceding one goal on the day.”
