Brandon Silva drives the ball down the field during a tough match against Cumberland County.

The DeKalb County High School Tigers soccer team split games last week, falling to the top team in the region in one game, then getting a big win against a border rival team afterwards.

On Tuesday, April 11, the Tigers were on their home field where they hosted their old rival the Cumberland County Jets. The Jets are always a tough team to beat and they proved in again last week.

The Jets got on the board first, scoring three goals in the first half.

The Tigers managed to avoid the shutout with 32:09 left in the game with a goal by Cooper Brown, but that would be all they could muster against the fast-paced Cumberland team. The Jets claimed the 3-1 win.

Conner Vance had 10 saves in the game.

The following Thursday, the Tigers were again on their home field, this time taking on the Warriors of White County. The Tigers would dominate this match.

Miguel Mata hit the net at 20:38 left in the first, then it was Yair’s turn again, striking with 15:01 left in the first. The Tigers were up, 5-0.

The second half belong to the Tigers as well with Yair hitting the net with an assist by Cooper Brown with 36:35 left to play. Yair struck once more with 35:20 on the clock, then Miguel hit the net at 32:45 with an assist by Yair. Cameron Miller scored with 28:50 left to play, then in was Miguel’s turn again, scoring a goal with 24:31 left in the match.

The Warriors would only manage one goal in the game, giving DeKalb the 10-1 victory. Vance had four saves in the game.
