The DeKalb County High School Tigers baseball team managed to get in four games last week, splitting a series with Stone Memorial, falling against Westmoreland, then bouncing back against Community on Friday.

On Monday, April 15, the Tigers were on the road to Cumberland County, taking on the Stone Memorial Panthers. Stone would go up early with the Tigers trying to make a comeback late.

The Panthers scored four runs at the bottom of the first, with action not picking back up until the top of the fourth.

Evan Prichard got a walk, followed by Carson Donnell taking a HBP. Prichard would get caught at third following a bunt by Cam Caballero, but later Dallas Kirby doubled on a fly to center as Donnell and Ben Driver, running for Caballero, scored. Konner Young would walk, then Kirby would score on a wild pitch as Ty Webb was at the plate. DeKalb had cut the lead, 4-3.

The Panthers would score one more at the bottom of the fifth, and the game would go to the top of the seventh, where DeKalb would leave two on base before Stone took the 5-3 win.

Caballero pitched four and one-third innings in relief, giving up two hits and one run, striking out two and walking two. Brayden Carter took the loss going one innings, surrendering four runs on four hits, striking out one and walking zero.

The following day, the Tigers were back on home ground, this time hosting the Panthers. It would nearly be a mirror of the previous game, this time with the Tigers coming out on top.

Dallas Kirby would reach on a grounder and an error at third to get things going at the top of the second. Ty Webb would then reach on a grounder and error at short. Westin Wright would walk, then Evan Prichard singled on a hard grounder to right as Webb and Kirby scored. Donnell was next, and doubled on a fly to center as Wright scored. DeKalb was up, 3-0.

Stone would get on the board with two runs at the top of the third, but DeKalb would come right back. Prichard and Donnell would each single, then Braxton Cantrell reached on a bunt and an error by first. Webb singled on a hard grounder to right, sending Donnell and Andrew Dakas, running for Prichard, across the plate. The Tigers were up 5-2.

The game would go to the bottom of the seventh where the Panthers would score one more run, but DeKalb held on for the 5-3 victory.

Prichard earned the win allowing five hits and three runs over six innings, striking out four and walking five.

On Wednesday, the Tigers hosted a team from Westmoreland. DeKalb would take the early lead, but Westmoreland would run away with the game in the third.

Westmoreland scored one run at the top of the first, but DeKalb would take the lead at their first at bats. Young singled on a fly to center, then Kirby got a walk. Ty Webb then stepped up and doubled on a line drive to center as Young and Kirby touched home. Carter was next and was out on a sacrifice fly to right, but Webb would score. The Tigers were up 3-1.

Things went south for DeKalb at the top of the third, with Westmoreland scoring 15 more points, and they would top off their lead at the top of the third, 17-3.

Dakas would score the final run for the Tigers at the bottom of the fourth, with Westmoreland taking the 17-4 win. Donnell took the loss from the mound, going two innings, giving up six runs on six hits, striking out one and walking two.

On Friday, the Tigers would bounce back and claim a big win over Community. The Tigers took the early lead and never looked back.

It was a brutal way to get men on base for the Tigers at the bottom of the first, but Young would take a HBP, Kirby would walk, then Carter took a HBP. Wright would also get a HBP, sending Young home, then Prichard grounded to first as Kirby scored. Donnell would fly out to left as Carter scored, and the Tigers were up 3-0.

It would be even better at the bottom of the second. Webb singled on a line drive to center, then Young walked. Later, Tucker Webb got a walk, followed by Webb scoring on a passed ball as Carter was up. Carter got a walk, then Wright grounded out to short as Tucker Webb scored. Prichard would get a walk, then Carter would score on a wild pitch as Donnell was back at the plate. Donnell walked, then Cantrell reached on an error at short.

Ty Webb was back at the plate and singled on a hard grounder to left as Prichard touched the plate. Young singled on a grounder to center and Cantrell would score on the throw. Donnell would also score. Webb would score on a wild pitch as Kirby was up and the Tigers were up 12-0.

Tucker Webb would score on a wild pitch for the Tigers in the fourth inning and top off DeKalb’s score. Community would manage one run at the top of the fifth, but the Tigers would take the 13-1 victory.

Caballero earned the win for DeKalb, giving up one hit and zero runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out six and walking two.
