Tigers win one, lose one against Macon

The DCHS Tiger baseball team played Macon County twice this week, taking a 4-2 loss in Macon on Monday, and shutting the team from Lafayette out 8-0 in Smithville on Wednesday.

 

In the first game, Macon scored two runs in the second inning and two more in the fourth, while DeKalb answered with one in the third and one in the seventh. The first Tiger run came when Lee Randolph hit a grounder and got to first on an error by the Macon shortstop, sending Logan Cornelius across the plate. DeKalb’s only other run went across when Grayson Redmon scored on a Colter Norris sacrifice fly in the seventh.

 

Macon scored four runs on only two hits, while the Tigers recorded five hits, but only managed two runs. DeKalb committed three errors in the contest, while Macon made one bad play.

 

Christian Pruitt and Grayson Redmon smacked doubles for DeKalb, while Colter Norris, Paxton Butler and Logan Cornelius put singles in.

 

Macon made the long trip to DeKalb on Wednesday, and went home with an 8-0 loss.

 

John Maynard held the mound for the first five innings, getting eight strikeouts and giving up only one hit. Hunter Jennings came in for the final two innings, struck out one Macon batter and allowed no hits.

 

The Tigers scored eight runs on ten hits. John Maynard swatted two doubles, Colter Norris belted a single and a double, Christian Pruitt doubled, and Paxton Butler, Jacob Self, Grayson Redmon, Logan Cornelius and Lee Randolph hit a single each.

 

DeKalb scored three runs in the second inning, added another in the fourth, and rallied for four more in the fifth. The tigers committed no fielding errors in the contest.

 

The Tigers, now 14-5-1 on the season, will compete in the Walking Horse Classic this weekend, and will return to Smithville to host Smith County on April 24.
