It was a night of glitz and glamour last Monday night as the DeKalb Middle School Saints football team and cheerleaders held their annual banquet to celebrate the teams and their outstanding members.
Friends, family, and athletes gathered at First Baptist Church in Smithville for the event, which featured a catered meal by Kilgore's restaurant, and a photo review of this year's season highlights.
The night's big awards went Jon Hendrix who took home the 2021 DMS Most Valuable Player award, while the 2021 Most Valuable Cheerleader award went to Deanna Agee.
The Offensive Player of the Year award was presented to running back Juan Ortega, while Wyatt Carter was named at Defensive Player of the Year. Bryson Arnold took home the 2021 Lineman award, while Turner Bryant was named as Most Improved. The "Saints" awards was presented to Aiden Turner. Hendrix, Ortega, and Carter also received DMS Football All Conference awards.
To round out the cheerleading awards, Khloe Grandstaff won the 2021 Best Stunts award, while Landen Tubbs took home the award for Best Jumps. Brooklynn Blaylock won the Outstanding Leadership award, while the Most Spirited award winner was Lillie Young. The 2021 Most Improved award went to Jaycee Daley.
