Tough Road Trip for Saints
Saints
Quarterback Jesse Foutch uses the stiff arm as he tries to navigate the White County line.

It was a tough night for the Saints Thursday night as they traveled to Sparta to take on the formidable White County Spartans.  The Spartans, who are undefeated this year, have thus far muscled their way to lopsided victories from every opponent they faced.  While the Saints fell short, 38-14, the team played hard and garnered respect from both sides of the field.

The Saints got the ball to open the game but, after gaining a first down, was forced to punt.  White County fumbled the ball, giving the Saints another opportunity, but they were unable to do much, eventually turning the ball over on downs back to the Spartans.

It would only take four plays for White County to get on track, scoring with just under a minute to play in the first quarter.  The two-point conversion was good, making the score 8-0.

The Saints would fumble the ensuing kickoff and White County would make them pay again scoring from 45 yards out in two plays, increasing their lead to 14-0.

The Saints would be forced to punt again on their next possession, and this time it would only take White County one play to strike, adding to their advantage, 22-0.

This time the Saints found their rhythm, putting together a 9-play drive, culminating with a 12-yard passing strike from quarterback Jesse Foutch to Keice Hannah to put the Saints on the board.  The two-point conversion was good and with less than a minute to play in the half the Saints showed signs of life, 22-8.

Disaster would strike for the Saints, however as it would again take the Spartans only one play to find the end zone, increasing their lead to 30-8 going into the half.

The Saints defense would stiffen in the second half, allowing only one White County touchdown throughout the rest of the game. On the Spartans first possession of the half, they marched downfield in 3 plays to extend their lead to 38-8.

The Saints would find the end zone once more in the game as Jesse Foutch would find the end zone on a one-yard scamper to put, what would end up being the final points of the game on the board.  The point after was no good, sealing the game at 38-14.

The Saints will play at home for the final time in the regular season Thursday night when they take Upperman for Eighth Grade Night.
