Joseph Trapp of Smithville has earned a spot on Team USA to race in the ITU world championships in the Aquathon division in Bejing, China on Sept. 7.
Qualifications were based on 1,000 meter open water swim and a 5K run.
Trapp reported a time for the 1,000 meter open swim of 11.09 on Center Hill Lake, and a 5K time of 22 minutes in Green Brook Park.
“They needed people who were willing to make the team and race in China,”  said Trapp. “The commission needed people to compete in the Aquathon world championships in order to grow the sport. I went for the challenge, and had to adjust my work schedule to make it happen.
“ The Aquathon is a 2.5 kilometer run followed by a 1,000 meter swim, and ending with another 2.5 kilometer run,” Trapp continued. “I have finished my sponsorship campaign, and would like to thank The Smithville United Methodist church and THK rhythm. I am thankful for the support from my work and my family, for helping me to get the time to make this happen.”
When Trapp returns from China, he will be entering the RCP Open Water Swim in San Fransisco, California, on Sept. 18.
“ I should be physically ready by the time I get back from Beijing to head out  to the RCP Open Water Swim in San Fransisco. It is number 91 on the list of top 100 top world open water swims.”
