Calendar photo contest underway

 

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is now accepting entries for its 2017-18 photo contest for publication in the Tennessee Wildlife’s annual calendar issue. All interested photographers are invited to submit up to 10 of their best photos on fishing, hunting, boating, and wildlife species native to Tennessee. 

 

The photos will be reviewed for publication in the annual calendar edition of Tennessee Wildlife, which is the summer issue. If a photo is selected for the calendar edition, the photographer will receive a cash stipend of $60. 

 

Interested photographers must submit their photo entries by the March 17, 2017 deadline. Photos must be horizontal (landscape), in JPEG format, and submitted on a CD. They must be sized to print no smaller than 8-1/2x11 and resolution should be as least 300 pixels/inch.

 

Photographers must be sure to provide their name, address, phone number, and e-mail address with their disk. Disks cannot be returned.

Tennessee Wildlife is the official magazine for the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. Subscription rates are $10 for one year, $17 for two years and $25 for three years.

 

Deer season winds up

 

Deer hunting season is nearing its conclusion in Tennessee. The gun season for deer concludes on Jan. 8 while the second Young Sportsman Hunt for 2016-17 is Jan. 14-15.

 

For the Young Sportsman Hunt, youth, 6-16 years of age are allowed to participate. The young sportsmen must be accompanied by a non-hunting adult at least 21 years of age who must remain in a position to take control of the hunting device.

 

The accompanying adult must comply with fluorescent orange regulations, as specified for legal hunters. Multiple youth may be accompanied by a single qualifying adult.

 

The first youth hunt of the season was held Oct. 29-20. The gun season for deer for everyone across the state began Nov. 19. Archery and muzzleloader equipment are also legal during gun season.

 

In addition, in Unit L counties on private lands only, antlerless deer can be hunted Jan. 9-13.

 

A final harvest tally for 2016-17 will be completed a few weeks following the completion of the Young Sportsman Hunt.

 

Applications being taken for Youth Turkey Quota Hunt

 

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is announcing that three Young Sportsman 2017 spring turkey quota hunts is underway.

 

The available youth hunts are Tellico West on March 25-26 (5 hunter quota), Tellico Lake WMA (McGhee Carson Unit), on March 25-26, (5 hunter quota), and Yuchi Refuge on March 17-19 (10 hunter quota). The deadline for entry is Jan. 18.

 

Youth hunters ages (6-16 by the date of the hunt) may submit one application for the regular quota hunt and one for the youth-only hunt. Youth hunters must be accompanied by an adult 21 years of age or older, who must remain in a position to take immediate control of the hunting device.
