DeKalb County Middle School’s Saints played host to their Warren County neighbors Friday, meeting up with the Lady Pioneers and Pioneers at high noon at the Mike Braswell gymnasium for a rare day game.
While the Lady Saints took the opener over the Lady Pioneers, the Saints fell in a close matchup with WCMS, making the day an even split for the two competitors.

What started out as a close contest with both teams knotted at eight points each after the first quarter, became a challenge for the Lady Pioneers who faced the stalwart defense of the Lady Saints while struggling with consistency on offense.
Warren County ran into difficulty in the second quarter, giving up five points from the charity stripe and six more from outside the arc, while garnering five points in offense for themselves. In the contest, DeKalb went 9-for-15 from the line while the Lady Pioneers shot a dismal 3-for-12.
It was the 10 points earned at the charity stripe which was a significant statistic in the contest as Warren County shot 13-for-19 from the line for 63 percent compared to DeKalb’s 5-of-9 for 56.
The Pioneers distributed the basketball well, and when they didn’t get through the paint, Asher Wallace hit for a game-high 14 points, dialing long distance for 12 of them.
Conner Close was the high scorer for DeKalb with 11 total points in the contest followed by Jordan Young with nine, Silas Cross six, Evan Sprague five, Robert Wheeler three and Isaac Knowles hit for two points.DMS played a tough hands-up pressing defense and they capitalized on turnovers, outscoring the Lady Pioneers 11-0 in the third quarter, leaving a 17-point deficit going into the fourth.
DeKalb’s Kadee Ferrell was unstoppable and she was the game-high scorer with 21 total points in the matchup.
Also adding to the total tally for DeKalb were Kennedy Agee with nine points, Jacqueline Bain six, Natalie Snipes five and Katie Colwell added one point from the line.
Bella Cantrell led the Lady Pioneer scoring with 11 total points.
