Amanda Winchester, owner of Cheyannes Closet on Market St. just off the square, stands next to her kids shoes display. The store carries all kinds of childrens clothes, toys, car seats and strollers.

I wanted to have some Halloween and Fall Festival themes this month as October is my favorite month of the year. Although we often seem to jump right from summer to winter, at least that’s how it seems, October is still the time when the pumpkin spice lattes come back in style, the weather tends to cool a bit and there is at least a hint of fall in the air.
So since we’re having this Great Pumpkin Hunt here at the Review where readers can get clues from area establishments and win $100 finding a pumpkin, I visited two of our clue-givers to see how it’s been going.

Cheyanne’s Closet – Kids Resale Boutique – 117 W. Market St. – 615-597-1551
Stopping by Cheyanne’s Closet found owner Amanda Winchester hard at work, it being her third week open.
“Everything’s been really good so far,” Winchester said. “People are showing up and so far, so good.”
Cheyanne’s Closet is everything kids from new and used clothing, shoes, toys, boutique items to hair bows. They have a big collection of child-safety car restraint seats and strollers as well.
“We’re having a 20 percent off storewide sale beginning Nov. 4,” said Winchester.
On top of the awesome kid’s collection inside, visitors can pick up the clues for the pumpkin contest and shop at the same time.
I didn’t have to go far for the next store to offer pumpkin clues (and even provide pumpkin clothes) as it was located right next door.

So if you do want actual pumpkin clothes, Dennis and Sherry Harris can definitely make them for you or most anything else too.
On the Square since June 2011, they had a unique move-in experience.
“We moved in during the Jamboree,” Dennis said. “It was challenging to say the least.”
Making t-shirts, jackets, doing embroidery, screen printing and banners are all in their wheelhouse and they’re high tech when it comes to sewing and embroidery machines.
They can make your favorite football team’s logo - which around these parts, for high school at least, would be the DeKalb County Tigers.
“Smithville people have been really great,” Sherry said. “We love the people here; they’re very friendly and we like to give that back.”
October seems to be a favorite for the Harris family as well.  In addition to the pumpkin clues they’re a stop on Halloween Downtown’s tour route for the City of Smithville and the Police Department’s “Trick or Treat Halloween Downtown” Tuesday, Oct.31 from noon until 5 p.m.
“We just love Halloween; giving out candy to the children it’s so much fun,” Sherry said.
And so does Skeeter, a friendly little terrier who greets all the customers coming in for a visit and is part of the staff according to Dennis and Sherry.
I also found out they make the banners for the Smithville Review’s “Best of the Best” but there wasn’t a category where they fit in to be voted on. Our GM Angie Meadows admitted that was an oversight so we’re looking forward to a category where they can be voted for next year… who knows they might print their own banner.
I don’t think we’ll see a category of “Best Newspaper Columnist” though since we don’t have very many to choose from. Having won that category in McMinnville last year, I would rather stay delusional.
