Vaughn pulls knife on officer, headbutts him

Andy Joe Certain, 39 year-old of Smithville, was arrested Feb. 9, the second time in one week, and charged with evading arrest, Methamphetamine deliver, sale or possess, driving while in possession of Methamphetamine, Methamphetamine deliver/sale, possession of a controlled substance schedule II and schedule IV and possession of a weapon. His bond totaled $50, 000, and his court date is March 2.

On Feb. 9, a DeKalb County Sheriff’s Dept. deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop of a vehicle on Miller Lane. After lights and sirens were activated, the vehicle failed to stop turning onto Banks Pisgah Road continuing into Cannon County throwing items out of the window including a camo backpack. The vehicle crashed at the intersection of Purser Hill and Half Acre Road in Cannon County. Certain was found to be the driver. He was found to be in possession of three individual baggies of Methamphetamine weighing .10 grams, .57 grams and 11.02 grams, several baggies, a set of scales used in the sale/delivery process, eight Morphine pills and nine Xanax pills. A 32 caliber handgun was found in the camo backpack which was thrown out during the pursuit. Certain was found guilty of assault, which is a felon, in June of 2003 and cannot legally possess a handgun. He was also written citations for driving on a revoked license, running stop signs, and driving while roadway lanes of travel and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Kelli Elizabeth Vaughn, 47 years-old, of Smithville was arrested on Feb. 8 and charged with evading arrest, resisting stop frisk halt arrest/search, and assault. Her bond was set at $6,500 and she is to appear in court Feb. 23.

On Feb. 8 a male subject pulled up beside of a DeKalb County Sheriff’s Dept. deputy on New Home Road and stated a black Chevy single-cab truck that had just passed by had hit his vehicle and did not stop. The deputy made contact with the truck at the intersection of New Home Road and Nashville Highway where it sped through the intersection onto Allen Ferry Road. The deputy activated his blue lights and sirens near the Little League Ball Park on Allen Ferry road, where the truck sped up again and was swerving in both lanes of traffic. The truck then turned onto Holmes Creek Road causing another vehicle to run into a ditch. The deputy then turned his lights and sirens off due to the truck driving recklessly and endangering other. The truck was last seen on Holmes Creek Road. Detectives later made contact with the vehicle at a home on Holmes Creek road, where they found Vaughn. She admitted to driving the vehicle. While the detectives were attempting to arrest Vaughn, she allegedly grabbed a knife from her back pocket. Officers became hands-on where she became violent and resisted arrest while being given verbal commands to put up her arms. She also head-butted the officer. In addition to her charges, she was also written citation for no insurance, possession of drug paraphilia (several pipes), and simple possession (one-gram of marijuana).

Twenty-year-old Charles Edward Moody of Woodbury was arrested by a DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department detective on Feb. 6 and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, aggravated burglary, and theft of property over $1,000. His bond was set at $75,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 23.

The aggravated burglary charge and theft of property charges stem from Feb. 1 when Moody allegedly entered a residence in Dowelltown without the owner’s consent. Handguns, two tablets, Winchester shells, and $1,100 in cash was taken from the residence. Moody was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon after he allegedly sold an Armscore 38 pistol to a subject on Pine Orchard Road on Feb. 5. Moody was charged and convicted of a felony in 2016 and cannot legally possess a weapon.

Aaron Matthew Woods, 30 year-old, of Carthage was arrested and charged with DUI first offense. He was arrested on Feb. 6 after a DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department Deputy responded to an accident on Highway 70 in Alexandria near the Alexandria Sale Barn. The driver, determined to be Woods, appeared to be under an intoxicant having slurred speech, unsteady on his feet and falling in and out of consciousness. Woods tried, but was unable to perform field sobriety tasks. He did consent to a blood alcohol test. In addition to the DUI charge, he was written a citation for no insurance. His bond was set at $1,500, and he is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 23.

Fifty-four year-old Troy Daniel Klingbeil, of Liberty, was arrested on Feb. 8 and charged with filing a false police report. On January 25 Klingbeil filed a false report with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Dept. stating a Honda generator was stolen on Jan. 15. After speaking with Klingbeil, it was determined the report was false. His bond was set at $5,000 and he is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 23.

Twenty-six year-old Mauro Ponce, Jr of McMinnville was charged with driving under the influence first offense on Feb. 12 after a deputy witnessed his vehicle cross the center line several times on Hwy. 56 South. After being stopped the deputy witnessed that he had blood-shot eyes and slurred speech. He told the deputy he had consumed four beers. He agreed to and performed poorly on field sobriety tasks. He was also written citations for no insurance and driving while on roadways lane for travel. His bond was set at $1,500, and he is scheduled to appear in court March 2.
