“An excellent educational opportunity for the schoolchildren of Tennessee to learn about science.”
-- Official Tennessee Resolution Celebrating Totality
On August 21, 2017, two million Tennesseans will witness the breathtaking majesty of a total solar eclipse. For the first time in 99 years, the experience known as “Totality” will sweep across the United States, transforming day into night for the residents of seven different states from Oregon to South Carolina.
The largest American city in Totality’s path, Nashville, hasn’t experienced this type of eclipse for 539 years. The last time a total solar eclipse visited Tennessee’s capital, Christopher Columbus was more than a decade away from sailing the ocean blue. After this August, it will be another 136 years before Totality returns to Tennessee and more than five centuries before it again passes over Nashville.
To celebrate this historic celestial event, Totality Tennessee has been formed to support science education in the Volunteer State by selling a limited edition of commemorative Tennessee eclipse t-shirts.
For every 500 t-shirts purchased in a particular school district, Totality Tennessee will donate a high-quality telescope for that district’s year-round educational use. Sales of these attractive, Tennessee-designed t-shirts will enrich the science curriculum in our public schools, giving students a meaningful way to engage with astronomy both during Totality and as part of their continuing science education.
These t-shirts are only available to Tennessee residents. A strictly limited edition of 10,000 will be available for online purchase with a debit or credit card at www.totality.tn.com
Orders will be accepted immediately, with a July 15, 2016 final ordering deadline. All t-shirts will be delivered with free first-class shipping by Friday, August 11, 2017, allowing them to be worn at various Totality celebrations across the state.
