The Alexandria and Justin Potter Library’s Book Sale will start on Friday, Aug. 31 and will continue through Saturday, Sept. 29.

Highway 96 Oct. 19
The Tennessee Highway Patrol will be conducting a Seat Belt checkpoint in DeKalb County Oct. 9 on State Highway 96. Recognizing that an alarmingly high number of vehicle occupants killed in fatal crashes were unrestrained, the Tennessee Highway Patrol has elected to create an enforcement campaign aimed at drastically reducing the number of unrestrained drivers and occupants. Troopers will also be on active patrol observing for unrestrained drivers and occupants of motor vehicles. The Tennessee Highway Patrol has found seat belt checkpoints to be an effective means of enforcing seat belt and child restraint laws of Tennessee while ensuring the protection of all motorists.
Free Fall Funfest at
the Complex Oct. 20
DeKalb Community Complex will host its first FREE Fall Fest on October 20. Everything will be free and this event is geared towards kids and families! There will be games, cake walk, face painting, Kids arts and crafts, popcorn, live bluegrass music, line dancing class at 12:30pm, and Much more. Complex Director Josh Melton says, “Our newest member to our team here at DCC, Ashley Medlin is heading this event up and she is excited to get the community involved!” The DeKalb Farmers market will also be extending their hours to be a part of the festive fun. The fourth annual Handbags for Hope will be held Oct. 27 at 10:30 a.m. at Duck Pond Manor at 630 Duck Pond Road in Sparta. There will be a grab bag, purse auction and brunch. All proceeds go to domestic abuse prevention and awareness. Tickets are $30 apiece and are available through Everbrite.com (Genesis House).

His Love Help Center has been providing free clothes, shoes, medical items and etc. for over three years to people in our community. They serve all walks of life, such as single parents, the elderly, fire victims, and more. At the current location (1100 S. College St.) the Help Center has to pay rent, phone, water, gas and electric. In order to stay open and to continue serving our community it needs your help. Head Start is currently accepting applications to provide free comprehensive child development services to children three- five years of age from low-income families in a full-day program.
