Revival at Allen’s Chapel Oct. 25-28
A revival will be held Oct. 25-28 at 7 p.m. at Allen’s Chapel Methodist Church at 1037 Coconut Ridge Road.

Chili cook off Oct. 26 on the courthouse lawn
Habitat for Humanity will host its 15th annual chili cook off on the courthouse lawn Oct. 26 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

End Times: To Hell and Back Oct. 26-28
First Assembly's End Times: To Hell and Back will be performed again this year Oct. 26-28 with showings from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the church. All those wishing to attend should meet at the Airport Park. The event is free for ages 12 and up.

Handbags for Hope Oct. 27
The fourth annual Handbags for Hope will be held Oct. 27 at 10:30 a.m. at Duck Pond Manor at 630 Duck Pond Road in Sparta. There will be a grab bag, purse auction and brunch.
All proceeds go to domestic abuse prevention and awareness. Tickets are $30 each and are available through Everbrite.com (Genesis House).

Blue Springs School reunion Oct. 27

Poker run to benefit family starts at Twisted Oaks Oct. 27
A poker run to benefit a family with eight children in need of a large vehicle will be held Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will also be live music, door prizes, food, a 50/50 raffle, a best bike contest and Halloween costumes are welcome. $25 per rider and $10 per passenger with all donations welcome.
The first card will be picked up at Twisted Oaks, the second from The Docks Sports Bar and Grill, then the Hawg Barn, Cowboy Up and finally back to Twisted Oaks. For more info call 615-684-7717.

Color Cruise on Center Hill Oct. 27
The 16th Annual Fall Color Boat Cruise on Center Hill Lake, Silver Point, 1 to 4 p.m. This fundraising event is sponsored by the Friends of Edgar Evins State Park, an all-volunteer group with the sole purpose of supporting the park.
See waterfowl, other lake fauna, fall colors, historic landmarks and rich lake homes from the comfort of a pontoon boat. $15 per person. Make online reservations at www.foeesp.com/color-cruise. Fall Fest Pageants Oct. 27
The Smithville Business & Professional Women’s Club is now taking applications for its annual Fall Fest Pageants to be held October 27, 2018 at the DeKalb Community Complex. Contests are for girls two years through highs school age.
Deadline for entry was Friday, October 19, 2018.

The DeKalb County Wellness Commission will meet Oct. 30 at noon at the county complex.

Hallelujah Festival at Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church on Halloween
A Hallelujah Festival will be held at Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church Oct. 31 from 3:30 to 7 p.m.
There will be games, trick or treating, snacks and costumes. The family friendly event is free and open to everyone. The church is located at 1850 Allen Ferry Road.

Final day for youth basketball sign ups is Nov. 1
DeKalb Jr Pro Basketball signups will be held in the main lobby of the Dekalb County Community Center on Oct. 30 and Nov. 1 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.  
The cost is $30 to be paid by cash or check at the time of signup.  We will NOT be having signups on the day of tryouts this year.

We will NOT be accepting any late signups after Nov. 1. NO EXCEPTIONS. 


First United Methodist Church craft bazaar and lunch Nov. 2
First United Methodist Church will hold its annual craft bazaar and luncheon from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the church at 102 West Church Street. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a variety of food. For carry outs call 615-597-9656.

Benefit auction and supper for Martha Melching Nov. 3
A benefit soup and chili supper and auction will be held Nov. 3 at Smithville Church of God with supper at 5 p.m. and auction at 6 p.m. $5 for supper.
Proceeds will go to help Martha Melching who is guidance counselor at DeKalb Middle School. She is expecting her second child and has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Women’s Conference at Banks CPC Nov. 3
Banks Cumberland Presbyterian Church will hold a women’s conference beginning at 9:30 a.m., Nov. 3. It is a free half-day event and lunch will be served.
Special singing by Jeremy Myers and speaker will be Monica Schmeter.

House of Prayer sanctuary dedication Nov. 3
The House of Prayer Apostolic Church will dedicate its new sanctuary at 6 p.m., Nov. 3 at their church at 690 Bright Hill Road.

Ten Commandments service at New Home Nov. 3
New Home Baptist Church will hold a Ten Commandment Service on Saturday, November 3, 2018 beginning at 5:00 p.m.  Covering each commandment will be Thomas Hale, Glen Denton, Lewis Carrick, Bobby Thomason, BJ Thomason, Nathan Thomason, Jeff Crips, Shannon Cantrell, David Lawson and Hunter Stanfield. A veteran’s celebration will be held Nov. 8 at Smithville Elementary at 9:30 a.m. All veterans are invited. Guests need to be at the school by 9:15 a.m.

Festival of trees planned at Complex
DeKalb’s Festival of Trees will be held at the County Complex with setup dates from 6 to 8 p.m., Dec. 2 and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Dec. 3. Take down will be Jan. 2-5. Trees must be at least five feet tall. For full details about the contest call 615-318-2298.


Local Help Center Needs Help From the Community
His Love Help Center has been providing free clothes, shoes, medical items and etc. for over three years to people in our community. They serve all walks of life, such as single parents, the elderly, fire victims, and more. At the current location (1100 S. College St.) the Help Center has to pay rent, phone, water, gas and electric.  In order to stay open and to continue serving our community it needs your help. If you feel you are able to provide financial help, have a building they can use or a one-time donation please stop by the help center or call 615-597-(love) 5683.

Free high school equivalency classes are offered Mondays from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the complex in Room 119. Registration is 4 to 7 p.m. Mondays and 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays. Smithville Head Start Center
L.B.J. & C. Head Start is currently accepting applications to provide free comprehensive child development services to children three- five years of age from low-income families in a full-day program.
Services are also offered to meet the special needs of children with disabilities. L.B.J. & C. Head Start helps all children succeed.
