The Sheriff's Department arrested a 63-year-old local man and charged him with the manufacture of marijuana last week. Donald Wayne Cantrell faces charges of manufacture of a Schedule VI controlled substance (marijuana) after he was allegedly found with more than 40 plants in his back yard on July 2.

According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, a sheriff's department drug detective went to Cantrell's residence and spoke with him about some marijuana plants. The sheriff said Cantrell admitted to growing the illegal weed, and reportedly showed the plants to the detective.

Ray said approximately 42 marijuana plants were taken from the property.

Meanwhile, Oscar Alexis Garcia, 18, of Clarksville was charged with evading arrest, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, and underage driving while impaired, and was cited for not having driver’s license and other traffic infractions on July 3.

Ray said a deputy was called to investigate reports of a possible drunk driver on Cookeville Highway when he encountered Garcia’s vehicle driving erratically. The officer reportedly saw the vehicle leave its lane of travel several times, and deputy attempted to stop it, but Garcia sped away at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour. Garcia allegedly ran four traffic lights, and was swerving in and out of traffic.

At one point, Ray said Garcia pulled over to the shoulder of the road and stopped, but took off again when the officer got out of his patrol car. That began a chase of more than 13 miles before the vehicle was stopped on Hurricane Ridge Road.

Garcia allegedly still refused to leave the vehicle and resisted being handcuffed. The sheriff said Garcia had a strong odor of alcohol on his person, and admitted to drinking two beers.

When Hill came out of the store, the drug detective approached him, and Hill reportedly gave consent to a search.

Ray said the detective found a morphine 60 milligram pill inside a cellophane pack under the driver's-side floor mat. Hill allegedly admitted that he had paid $30 for the pill, and the other man delivered it to his car.

Since Hill had his young daughter with him, Ray said the detective asked him to come to the sheriff's department on the following Friday, but he did not appear that day.

Ray said that while a deputy was serving the warrant for simple possession of a Schedule II drug (Morphine) on June 30, Hill pulled a blister pack with four Hydrocodone pills and a plastic pill pouch with two and one half Alprazolam pills from his pocket. Hill allegedly said the pills did not belong to him

The woman said she picked up a pan from the kitchen sink to defend herself, but Nelson pushed her to the ground and hit her several times, causing a cut to her nose, a swollen eye and scrapes to her elbows. Other parties reportedly pulled him off the woman, and she apparently left the property. Nelson was determined to have been the primary aggressor and was arrested.
