Early voting begins July 18

The DeKalb County Election Commission has announced early voting hours for the Aug. 7 elections. Early voting will begin July 18 on the first floor of the courthouse, and ends Aug. 2.

 

Voters in DeKalb will choose a county mayor, sheriff, general sessions judge, county clerk, circuit court clerk, register of deeds, trustee, road supervisor, all 14 county commissioners, five school board members, and three vacant constable seats.

 

Smithville and Dowelltown's municipal elections will also be held on Aug. 7. A mayor and two aldermen will be chosen in Smithville, while three aldermen will be elected in Dowelltown.

 

Five judges in the 13th Judicial District will be on the ballot, as well as a District Attorney General and Public Defender. Voters will also be asked whether to retain several state judges.

 

Democrats and Republicans statewide will choose nominees for governor, senator, representatives, state senators, state representatives and state executive committeemen and women. Winners will move on to the November Tennessee General Election.

 

Voters are being encouraged to vote early to avoid possible long lines at the polls on election day. Early Voting hours are as follows:

 

•Mondays-- 1-6 p.m.

 

•Tuesdays-- 9 am. - 1 p.m.

 

•Wednesdays-- 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

 

•Thursdays-- 2 p.m. - 6 p.m.

 

•Fridays-9.a.m. - 1 p.m.

 

•Saturdays- 9 a.m. - noon.
