A Monday morning blaze completely destroyed a home on Rolling Acres.
DeKalb County Fire Chief Donny Green said the residence of Robert Moore was a total loss. “They lost everything,” Green told the Review. According to Green, Moore and his grandson were inside the home when they heard a loud boom and found that the deck on the east side of the structure was on fire.
The two escaped the conflagration, but by the time firefighters arrived soon after half the home was fully involved. They were only able to do an exterior attack of the fire, and the home and all the family’s belongings were destroyed.
Members of the Cookeville Highway, Short Mountain Highway, Midway, Main Station, and Temperance Hall Stations responded to the scene, and the Smithville Volunteer Fire Department provided mutual aid. The Sheriff’s Department and DeKalb EMS were also on the scene.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
