Five people were indicted by the grand jury last week on various charges of inappropriate sexual conduct involving minors.
A sealed indictment was returned against James Walter Stringer, 34, charging him with three counts of rape of a child.
Charges of rape of a child were brought against Stringer after an investigation by city police.
Authorities allege that Stringer engaged in sexual activity with a 12-year-old girl three times between March 10 and April 21.
His bond is $200,000.
Also indicted on child-rape charges, 42-year-old Kenneth Lee Moore allegedly had sex with a 12-year-old niece relative.
Moore is accused of raping the girl, who was living with him at the time, in her sleep on Nov. 15, 2010.
According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, the girl awoke from sleep to find Moore making sexual contact with her.
Indicted on charges of raping a 12-year-old as well, the indictment alleges that 18-year-old Keith Clifford Lafreniere, II, intentionally or knowingly engaged in unlawful sexual activity with a minor on May 26, and that it was accomplished by the use of force or coercion constituting the offense of rape.
Smithville Police Department Detective Matt Holmes presented DNA evidence collected from the scene of the alleged crime on West Main Street.
Police believe that the evidence identifies Lafreniere as the culprit.
Meanwhile, 30-year-old Joseph Elwood Selby of Monterey has been indicted on a charge of sexual battery.
According to the sheriff, Selby touched a 12-year-old female on the buttocks several times in a sexual manner while swimming at Floating Mill Park on July 2, making her feel uncomfortable and afraid.
Andrew Justin Anderson, 21, was named in an indictment on charges of sexual exploitation of a minor and aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor.
Anderson’s charges indicate that in June 2010, he knowingly promoted, sold, distributed, transported, or exchanged material that included over 100 images of a minor engaging in sexual activity or simulated sexual activity that is patently offensive, constituting the offense of sexual exploitation and aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor.
His bond is set at $150,000.
All five men will appear for arraignment in DeKalb County Criminal Court Dec. 12.
