Smithville Police have arrested a 52-year old-Smithville man and charged him with the rape of a child.

 

Jacky Lynn Fults is accused of anally penetrating a seven-year-old girl with his finger at his Foster Road residence on Sept. 28. According to the arrest warrant, doctors at Our Kids in Davidson County reportedly examined the girl on Sept. 29 and found evidence consistent with abuse.

 

The child allegedly also disclosed the facts of the case to staff members at the Child Advocacy Center in Cookeville on Sept. 30. The case was investigated by Lieutenant Matt Holmes of the Smithville Police Department.

 

Fults’ bail was set at $150,000.

 

Charles Henry Ward, 58, was charged with driving under the influence and cited for violation of the implied consent law on Oct.1.

 

According to Smithville Police Chief Randy Caplinger, an officer sent to investigate complaints of an SUV driving erratically on East Broad Street spotted the vehicle, and saw it swerve across the double yellow line heading toward West Bryant Street. He reportedly conducted a traffic stop and found the driver to be Ward.

 

Ward allegedly told the officer that he had consumed several shots of liquor. He reportedly had a strong odor of alcohol on his person, and submitted to, but performed poorly on, field sobriety tasks. He refused to take a blood test.

 

His bond was set at $2,500.

 

Ashley Mayo, 27, and Christina Mayo, 26, were both cited for shoplifting on Oct. 7.

 

Caplinger said police were dispatched called to a South Congress Boulevard business to check out reports of shoplifting. The officer spoke with the store manager, who reportedly told him that the two women had been seen putting merchandise in their purses.

 

Both women allegedly admitted taking the items when confronted. They will appear in court on Nov. 6.

 

Rocky Craig Carpenter, 65, was charged with DUI and possession of a handgun while under the influence, and cited for violation of the implied consent law on Oct. 8.

 

Caplinger said police were called to an accident in the emergency room parking lot at DeKalb Community Hospital. The investigating officer was informed by central dispatch that one of the involved parties, Carpenter, was inside the emergency room. The officer located and spoke with Carpenter, who allegedly had a strong odor of alcohol on his person and was unsteady on his feet.

 

While inventorying Carpenter's vehicle, police reportedly found a loaded .38 caliber Smith and Wesson pistol on the dashboard. His bond was set at $3,000.

 

John Brent Williams, 33, was charged with domestic assault on Oct. 12.

 

According to the chief, police were dispatched to an East Main Street home to investigate a possible domestic assault. The investigating officer spoke with Williams' girlfriend, who reportedly told him that the couple were arguing and Williams hit her about the face and head, knocked her to the floor, and tried to choke her. The woman reportedly ran to a neighbor's house and called 911.

 

Williams’ bond was set at $2,500.

 

Jeffery Lynn Sanders was cited for driving on a suspended license on Oct. 14.

 

Caplinger said an officer spotted Sanders operating a vehicle on Carter Street. Having prior knowledge that Sanders' license was suspended, the officer stopped the vehicle and issued the citation.

 

Sanders will appear in court on Nov. 20.
