The inaugural benefit golf tournament for Suzanne Williams was held Saturday at RiverWatch Golf Course and Resort in Smithville.

Owners Ken and Ann Lacey committed to the event after hearing about Williams accident and they want this tournament to be the first of many, planning on a charity event each year to help the community. With the help of local residents and golfers, plus the support of area sponsors, the event was a big success.

“We got with Rhonda (McAbee-DeKalb County mayors office) after we saw what happened and being a golf course we’re a facilitator, we have the ability to bring people in and do things like this,” said Ken Lacey. “We had met Susan through the Chamber and she had been helpful to us so we thought what can we do and how can we get people involved. Being around a lot of things like tragedies and accidents and we know that there’s expenses so we thought what we could do to help.”

The weather was perfect for playing 18 holes, as teams played for charity and bragging rights including cash prizes. There was music, a live auction, food and beverages to boot.
