A Liberty woman was recently arrested twice, within days, on drug charges according to reports from The Smith County Insider.

Twenty nine year-old Kari Carter, of Liberty, was arrested on Jan. 28 after she failed a drug screen by DCS. The drug screen showed positive for several types of narcotics. After a search of her vehicle, a black bag containing a syringe, a spoon with residue, a pill bottle containing a baggie with two tramadol tablets, a baggie containing .2 mg of methamphetamine and two empty pill bottles filled on Jan. 25. One of the empty bottles was prescribed alprazolam and the other empty prescribed buprenorphine. She was charged with simple possession of schedule IV, prescription drug fraud, possession of methamphetamine and felony possession of drug paraphernalia.

Ten days later, on Feb. 7, Carter was stopped by THP on I-40 near mile market 262 for speeding. The vehicle was at 90 mph in a 70 mph zone. During a search of the vehicle, .5 grams of a substance appearing to be methamphetamine was found in the front passenger seat where a male was sitting and along with spoon with burn marks on the bottom found in a McDonald’s cup located in the center console. Carter and two male passengers were arrested and transported to Smith County Jail.

After arriving at the facility, Carter was asked if she had any weapons, drugs or drug paraphernalia on her and was informed it would be an additional charge if she did. During the pat-down, a needle containing a dark purple liquid later found to be methamphetamine was found in Carter’s bra. The needle contained less than .5 grams.

She was charged with possession of controlled substances, felony possession of drug paraphernalia and introduction of contraband into a penal institution and violation of probation.
