The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) Chattanooga District has arrested the alleged driver in a fatal Monday hit-and-run accident on U.S. Highway 41 in Manchester. The driver has been identified as Shelton G. Martin II of Smithville.
The suspect’s vehicle reportedly left a mirror behind at the scene, and the THP’s Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) identified the mirror as belonging to a 1999-2003 Mitsubishi Galant, champagne in color.
The THP said they received information from an unknown source on Tuesday advising that the suspect in question was located at 140 Alva Jones Road in Warren County. The source reportedly stated that the vehicle involved in the Coffee County incident was also at this location.
Troopers from the THP Cookeville District were notified of the tip and dispatched to the residence. Martin was located and taken into custody at approximately 7 p.m. and transported to the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office.
