Man charged with attempted paddle-boat theft

A 31-year-old Liberty man was charged with theft of property over $500 after he allegedly attempted to steal a paddle boat from a Keltonburg Road residence on June 13.

 

Michael Dewayne Roller was arrested after a criminal detective investigating a report that someone had attempted to take a Sea Hawk Paddle Boat from the home without the owner's consent on June 13. Ray said a report of the attempted theft was taken, and a detective assigned to the case determined that Roller had attempted to steal the craft, valued at $600.

 

His bond was set at $5,000, and he will appear in court on July 23. He was arrested on Tuesday, June 30.

 

Meanwhile, local woman was charged with possession of Dilaudid after a sheriff’s department detective pulled her over on June 30.

 

31-year-old April Lynn Anderson was charged with possession of a Schedule II drug for resale after the detective reportedly found 10 pills and $1,720 in cash on her after a traffic stop. According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, the lawman spoke with Anderson after she got out of a 2015 Ford Mustang at East Side Inn. Anderson allegedly told the detective that she was on probation and had no job, and admitted that she was in possession of a metal container containing the illegal drug.

 

The sheriff said Anderson produced the container from the area of her crotch with 10 Dilaudid pills inside. Anderson was also found to possess $1,270 in cash and had 32 pill pouches in her purse. Anderson's vehicle was seized, and her bond was set at $10,000. She will appear in court on Aug. 13.

 

39-year-old Shannon James of McCarley, Mississippi was arrested on July 3 and charged with domestic assault and driving under the influence, as well as being cited for no driver’s license and driving on roadways laned for travel after he allegedly intentionally wrecked his 2001 Chevy S-10 to frighten his passenger.

 

The sheriff said a deputy was dispatched to Vaughn Lane to investigate an accident, and upon arrival he spoke with the driver, James, and a woman who had been his passenger. The woman reportedly told him that she and James were having an argument which became physical when James burned her finger with a cigarette. He then began swerving the truck in the roadway to scare the woman. She said the man intentionally wrecked the truck, causing her to fear for her life.

 

The investigating officer allegedly detected a strong odor of alcohol on James' person at the scene. He was reportedly very unsteady on his feet and his speech was slurred. He performed poorly on field sobriety tasks, and consented to a blood alcohol test.

 

James' bond was set at $3,000, and he will appear in court on July 16.

 

According to the sheriff, 46-year-old David Duane Brewer of Corinth Church Road has been arrested as a fugitive from justice in Michigan.

 

A detective reportedly ran a check on Brewer on June 24, and it was discovered that he is wanted in Livingston, Michigan on charges of larceny over $20,000 and two counts of unlawful driving away. He is expected to be extradited to Michigan.

 

He is under a $200,000 bond. He appeared in court on June 25, and signed a waiver of extradition. He will be in court again on July 16 if Michigan authorities have not picked him up.

 

21-year-old Dusty Ray Mathis of Baxter was charged with two counts of vandalism and one count of criminal trespassing. Ray said that Mathis drove through a field, garden and two galvanized gates in his 1997 Dodge pickup truck June 20 in order to gain entry to property on Austin Bottom Road, causing a total of $300 in damage.

 

Mathis reportedly did not have the owner's consent to be on the property. The case was investigated by a sheriff's department detective.

 

His bond was set at $4,500 and he will appear in court on July 16.

 

37-year-old Jessie Eugene Thomas and 32-year-old Terra Elaine Locklear both of Dowelltown, were charged with an aggravated burglary and theft over $1,000 committed on June 23. Thomas was also charged with vandalism.

 

The sheriff said that Thomas and Locklear broke into a residence on Dale Ridge Road and took several tools and building materials valued at $1,190. Thomas allegedly broke out a window valued at $425 during the burglary. Thomas and Locklear were arrested on June 26 in the case, investigated by a sheriff's department detective.

 

Bond for Thomas was set at $11,500. Locklear's bond is $10,000. They will both appear in court on July 16.

 

35-year-old Roger Curtis Gregory of Carthage was arrested on June 27 and charged with leaving the scene of an accident.

 

Sheriff Ray said that Gregory was operating a 2004 Nissan Maxima east on Hickman Road at Temperance Hall on April 28 when the car left the roadway, and hit a fence and trees. Gregory allegedly drove away from the scene without notifying the owner of the fence or the sheriff's department about the wreck. When confronted by a deputy later, Gregory admitted to being involved in an accident and that he failed to stop.

 

His bond was set at $1,500 and he will appear in court on July 16

 

23-year-old Nathaniel Dylan Tippens was charged with theft of property under $500 on June 26 while incarcerated at the local jail.

 

Ray said that Tippens, an inmate at the jail, took forty six Ranitidine pills and nineteen Ibuprofen pills from an office in the annex. "Tippens was an inmate in the jail annex. Due to a plumbing problem all the annex inmates were moved into a hallway. While in the hallway, Tippens gained entry to an office by way of a pass-through door. He pried open the door, got into the office and took the pills. He later admitted to taking the pills and they were returned to the correctional officers," the sheriff said. In an effort to keep such a thing from happening again, extra locks and hasps have been added to the door. His bond was set at $3,000, and he will appear in court on July 16.

 

32-year-old Henry Burt Turner, Jr. of Liberty has been charged with aggravated burglary, theft of property under $500, and violation of an order of protection.

 

Ray said a sheriff's department deputy saw Turner and a woman together in her car on the public square in Smithville on June 11. Knowing that she has an order of protection against Turner, the officer approached the vehicle and spoke with the woman.

 

After confirming that the order of protection was active, the deputy obtained a warrant for Turner's arrest.

 

In another incident, Turner allegedly broke into an Old Sligo Road home on May 19, causing $900 in damage to the home, and took a blue Rhino propane tank and a Stanley Fubar tool valued at $100. Turner was arrested for the burglary and theft on June 28 after being in custody in Rutherford County for a separate offense. The case was investigated by a sheriff's department detective.

 

Turners is under a $10,000 bond and will appear in court on July 23.

 

26-year-old Matthew Tyler Hale of Alexandria was charged with driving on a suspended license on June 28.

 

Ray said a deputy spotted Hale operating a motor vehicle traveling north on Main Street in Liberty. He allegedly saw Hale swap seats with a passenger while the vehicle was still in motion. Knowing that Hale had a suspended license, the officer made a traffic stop. Hale was previously cited for driving on a suspended license in June 21. His license were suspended in February for failure to provide insurance. His bond was set at $1,500, and he will appear in court on July 16

 

41-year-old John Allen (J.J.) Judkins has been charged with burglary and theft over $500.

 

The sheriff said that Judkins entered a barn on Old Keltonburg Road on May 27 and took several 2 x 10 sheets of tin off the side of the barn, and took fencing valued at more than $500. The case was investigated by a criminal detective of the Sheriff's Department.

 

His bond was set at $10,000 and he will appear in court on July 16.
