Man rescued from Dry Creek cave

The Smithville-DeKalb County Rescue Squad rescued a Coffee County man from a cave in the Dry Creek area Sunday morning.

 

The man was reportedly spelunking with a group deep inside Indian Grave Point Cave off Frazier Hollow Road when was trapped in a 60-foot hole. Central dispatch was called at approximately 2:30 a.m.

 

According to members of the rescue squad, the man was at least a mile from the cave entrance, trapped in a 60-foot deep pit. The man reportedly had a rope, but could not pull himself out of the hole. He fell from the rope at one point in his attempts, injuring his left arm.

 

Rescue squad members rappelled down into the pit and put the man in a harness. He was pulled from the hole at about 8:30 a.m. and transported Saint Thomas DeKalb Hospital.
