One injured in Friday crash

A 52-year-old Wilson County woman was injured in a collision at Atnip Street and West Broad Friday. According to the Smithville Police Department, Cynthia D. Carter, 33, was attempting to turn left from Atnip Street onto West Broad in a 1999 Dodge Durango when she pulled into the path of a 2005 Mercedes driven by Tina Marie Roberts of Lebanon, who was traveling west on West Broad Street. Roberts was the sole occupant of the Mercedes, while Carter's Dodge also carried a five-year-old passenger. Roberts told police that she had no chance to dodge the Durango when it entered her lane. Carter reportedly said she didn't see the other vehicle until just before the impact. Carter, apparently uninjured, was cited for driving on a revoked license and violation of the financial responsibility law. Roberts was reportedly taken to the hospital by DeKalb EMS, and authorities on the scene said the airbag had apparently broken both the woman's arms when it deployed. Members of the Smithville Volunteer Fire Department assisted city police at the scene.
