While an official notice has not been sent, the county has been informed that a fair market value for the property the Cherry Hill Community Center sits on has been established by the state.
County Mayor Tim Stribling told the county commission at Monday night’s monthly that a value of $7,200 had been determined. The .24 acre tract was deeded to DeKalb County by the state in August, 1981, with a restriction requires that the property be used for public benefit.
The Cherry Hill Community Center was constructed there, but there has been little activity at the center in recent years, and the structure is beginning to fall into a state of disrepair. County commissioners have explored the possibility of selling or leasing the property, but the county must apparently purchase the land back from the state before any deal can be made.
The excess land committee of the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s Right of Way Division met in January and approved the sale of the parcel back to the county.
