Devastating straight-line winds caused damage across the county last Wednesday. While no one was apparently injured during the violent thunderstorms that blanketed DeKalb. Uprooted trees and other wind damage were a common sight after the storm blew over. Central dispatch reportedly fielded more than 100 calls concerning the storm, no injuries were reported. Local schools were put on lockdown until conditions improved, and resulting electrical problems at DeKalb West forced the early closure of schools the next day. Members of all local fire departments, the rescue squad, city, state and county workers, and many volunteers joined to help clean up in the aftermath of the storm.
