Smithville police said a 34-year-old local man was charged with aggravated assault last week after officers responded to a call reporting that he pulled a gun at Walmart.
Nathan Joe Trapp was arrested for aggravated assault and violation of bond conditions, as well as being cited for unlawful possession of a firearm.
According to city police, officers were called to Walmart to investigate reports that Trapp had pulled a gun on someone. The lawmen spoke with the victims, who reportedly stated that Trapp almost hit one of them with his vehicle as they were walking to enter the store.
One of the victims waited outside the front doors to ask Nathan what his problem was, and he allegedly made a rude reply. The other victim pushed Trapp back away from the first victim and Trapp reportedly reached for a pistol in his waistband, at which time the victims backed off to avoid escalating the situation.
Police said Trapp entered Wal-Mart, and the officers found him inside the store and detained him. It was discovered that Trapp did not
have a license to carry the firearm, and had bond conditions barring him from possessing a firearm.
His bond was set at $45,000, and he will appear in court on June 8.
Alejandro Garza, 21, was arrested for evading arrest and cited for speeding on May 20.
City police said an officer observed a silver Jeep traveling west on East Broad Street at a speed of 63mph in a 40mph speed zone, confirmed by radar. The officer reportedly fell in behind the vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop.
After several turns onto other roads the vehicle finally stopped, and the officer made contact with the driver. It was reportedly discovered that Garza had just gotten off work and failed to stop because he did not want to get another ticket.
His bond is $3,500, and his court date is June 15.
