First responders and ambulance personnel move Rachel Acker to a waiting ambulance after her vehicle slid into the path of another car driven by Breanna Tarpley on Sparta Highway Monday afternoon near Sligo Bridge.

Two people were injured Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Sparta Highway near Sligo.

Injured were Rachel Acker, 41, of Sparta and Breanna Tarpley, 23, of Auburntown. According to Highway Patrolman Bobby Johnson, Acker lost control of her Buick Century as she was rounding a rain-slick curve. Her vehicle then spun across the center-line where it ran into the path of the oncoming Ford Fiesta driven by Tarpley.

The Tarpley vehicle sustained heavy damage and came to rest on the pavement while Acker's Buick ended up in a ditch just downhill from the crash site.

The drivers, all of whom were lone occupants, were taken to St. Thomas DeKalb for treatment of non-critical injuries. Acker was cited for failure to exercise due care.

The crash happened after a day of precipitation which left the downhill curve trecherous.
